Workshop on Police Accountability & Human Rights
A Workshop was conducted by Shri Sudhir M. Hegde, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), on issues relating to police harassment, illegal detention, extortion, custodial violence, and the protection of human rights.
The session highlighted the role of the SHRC, the procedure for filing complaints, the importance of preserving evidence through recordings and documentation, and provided legal guidance on rowdy-sheeter proceedings, externment orders, corruption complaints, and remedies for human rights violations.
Students and NGO representatives actively participated in the interactive discussion, raising important questions on police accountability and citizens' legal rights. The programme aimed to strengthen legal awareness and encourage victims to approach the SHRC for timely redressal.
