Alleged Custodial Death at Viveknagar Police Station
A joint fact-finding team comprising members of PUCL and APFJ visited Viveknagar Police Station to inquire into the alleged custodial death. The delegation included Prof. Y.J. Rajendra, National Vice President of PUCL; PUCL members Dhanush Babu and Varshaa; Advocates Nelson P. Raj, Moulya S., and Narasimhamurthy; Dr. Sylvia; and members of APFJ.
Following the fact-finding exercise, PUCL and APFJ jointly filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Karnataka High Court seeking the formulation of a comprehensive protocol to prevent custodial torture and custodial deaths. The petition also seeks appropriate directions and other consequential reliefs to strengthen safeguards against custodial violence and ensure accountability.
